Vietnam – Introducing Live Radio

Some 30 regional radio stations from the Mekong delta in the south to the Northern highlands learned for the first time to handle live broadcasting through hands-on practical training.

This is where Swedish Radio once started its activities in development cooperation in the 90’s. Our first project was a long running collaboration with the Voice of Vietnam called Introducing Live Broadcasting, running from 1996 to 2002.

This process included teaching all technical skills necessary for live radio, including phone-ins from listeners. We discussed the principles of how to interact with listeners and moderate a live discussion.

We worked with live broadcasting from sites outside the stations using OB-equipment and a lot of effort was put into the basics of modern news reporting and evaluation.
